• Will there be any costs involved?

  Comprehensive prevention and early-intervention care is largely not covered by Medicare or private health insurance, so any out-of-pocket costs should be clear to you before you proceed. This is both good practice and something we are committed to.

   

  A consultation with a doctor may have an out-of-pocket cost, depending on the service and whether a Medicare rebate applies. Where a doctor recommends any further assessment or ongoing care, that may also have a cost that is not covered, or not fully covered, by Medicare or private health insurance. Costs can vary, so we encourage you to ask what to expect before proceeding, so you can make an informed decision. If cost is a concern, a doctor can talk with you about the options available to you

• Do I need to speak to a doctor first, and why is it important?

  Yes, you do. There are three ways to access a referral: through an appointment with your regular GP, an appointment with a specialist, or via a telehealth consultation.

  Because every person’s health history and risk profile is different, it is important to discuss your individual circumstances with a GP or specialist. They can review your personal and family medical history, any known genetic risk factors, and other relevant health information to determine whether further assessment or early detection testing may be appropriate for you.

  Our Early Detection Service is designed for people who may be at a higher risk of pancreatic, ovarian or breast cancer. This may include people who:

  • Have a family history of pancreatic, ovarian or breast cancer
  • Have inherited genetic risk factors (such as BRCA gene mutations)
  • Have been advised by their doctor that they are at increased risk

• Who is the Early Detection service for?

  Our Early Detection service is designed for people who may be at a higher risk of pancreatic, ovarian or breast cancer. This may include people who:

  • Have a family history of pancreatic, ovarian or breast cancer

• Who should consider Early Detection services?

  Pancreatic cancer Early Detection services

  You may be at high risk of pancreatic cancer if you have a strong family history of pancreatic cancer, have a gene mutation associated with pancreatic cancer, or are over 50 years of age with new-onset type 2 diabetes.

   

  Ovarian cancer Early Detection services

  For women with a family history of ovarian, breast, or related cancers, this type of testing (known as advanced epigenetic blood-based testing) may help detect ovarian cancer at earlier stages, potentially improving survival outcomes.

   

  Breast cancer Early Detection services

  For women with a family history of breast cancers, 30 or more years of age, confirmed dense breast tissue (known as BI-RADS Category C or D), and with no previous history of cancer (except non-melanoma skin cancer). You should not be breastfeeding or pregnant. This testing should be performed within 3 months of breast images (e.g., mammogram or ultrasound).
